Brenda Delle

Born in Chickamauga Georgia, was educated in the public schools of Chattanooga Tennessee. She graduated from the University of Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science. She then moved to Washington D.C. area were she lived for three years. During that time, she taught in Prince George’s County Maryland.

After a brief return to Chattanooga, she moved to New Orleans. It was here that she felt at last she had found home. Her artistic training began with a French Quarter workshop with Alan Flattmann, Pastel Society of America Master Pastelist. In the years that followed , Delle studied watercolor and pastel with numerous nationally known artist and at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. Her work during this time focused on animal portraits, especially those of cats and their people. In 2003, she began studying with William Arthur Herring, a colorist from Horizon TX, in Master Courses at Cloudcroft, New Mexico. The courses focused on composition, drawing and the use of color. These courses greatly influenced her style because Herring encouraged her to use open color rather than the more traditional local color. During these courses, she also discovered the Polish chickens which she often paints as chickens with attitude.

Delle has traveled in Mexico,Canada,Guatemala,China,Spain and Prague. During her travels she draws and studies the work of master artists. She most enjoyed studying the works of Picasso in Malaga Spain and those of Alphonse Mucha in Prague. Her use of bright colors reflects time spent living in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico.

Delle’s work has been shown in France at the Festival International du Pastel sponsoed by Societe des Pastellistes de France. She has won numerous awards in national and local exhibitions. Her work has been featured in galleries in Louisiana and Mississippi and is owned by collectors coast to coast.

Delle is juried member of Degas Pastel Society, which has international membership. She is also an active member of the New Orleans Art Association and a charter member of the Jefferson Art Guild.
